Award-winning 3D Automated Pin Inspection (API) Solutions
Our 3D inspection equipment incorporates advanced technology like multi-direction moiré projection and real-time PCB warp compensation for precision. We also leverage our patented AI platform for process optimization. An integrated auto-repair dispensing system can reapply solder paste before the circuit board leaves the machine.
Our portfolio includes a range of advanced inspection technologies designed to enhance manufacturing quality and efficiency. This includes high-performing 3D solder paste inspection equipment and 3D automatic optical inspection (AOI) equipment, enhanced with AI for superior accuracy. Our offerings also cover Dispense Process Inspection (DPI) and Automated Pin Inspection (API) technologies, leveraging sophisticated optics and vision algorithms for precise material application and pin inspection. Additionally, we provide the industry’s first 3D optical measurement instrument tailored for inspecting transparent materials, as well as the leading inspection system for advanced packaging, ensuring comprehensive quality control across various manufacturing processes.
Workflow Decides, Then Field of View
Inline or offline. The KY-P3 Inline Series sits in the production line and inspects every assembly as it passes. The KY-P3 Batch Series is a dedicated configuration for an offline inspection workflow, for lines where pinning happens away from the conveyor or where sampling rather than full inspection is the requirement.
Field of view and speed. The Inline Series offers a 4 or 8 megapixel camera at 15 micron resolution, with a field of view of either 30 by 30 millimetres or 42 by 43 millimetres, inspecting at 0.8 to 1 second per field of view. A larger field of view covers a connector in fewer captures; a smaller one is the choice when pin pitch is tight.
Pin height. The series measures pins up to 20 millimetres with height linearity of plus or minus 0.75 percent of full scale, which covers press-fit, fork and connector pins on power and automotive assemblies.
The Inline Series is available as models A1, M1, A3, M2 and M3.
Pin Defects Do Not Show Up Downstream
Pin inspection is not covered by the inspection already on the line. AOI verifies solder joints and component placement after reflow; it is not measuring the height and position of a press-fit pin that has yet to be inserted. A pin that is out of tolerance typically passes electrical test and fails later in service, in an assembly that is already complete, which is the most expensive point at which to find it.
Automated pin inspection equipment is chosen on workflow before specification. Press-fit connectors, IGBT power modules and ECU assemblies all need pin height and position verified, and the first question is whether that happens in the line or away from it.
Both systems below measure pin geometry in 3D rather than judging an image, which matters because a pin that is short or tilted still looks correct from above. Our guide to connector pin integrity covers why that distinction decides whether a module survives its service life.
The two systems below cover inline and batch inspection of press-fit, fork and connector pins.
